About Oncology at Smita Memorial Hospital
The Oncology Department at Smita Memorial Hospital is led by Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Advani — Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardee and the pioneer of India's first successful bone marrow transplant. The department brings world-class cancer care close to home for families in Idukki and across Kerala.
Care follows a trans-disciplinary, multi-modality approach covering adult and paediatric oncology. Medical oncology, haematology, surgical oncology and supportive therapies work together on each patient's plan, with equal attention to emotional well-being, comfort and quality of life. Chemotherapy and supportive cancer treatment are delivered in a dedicated day-care area on the 3rd floor.
