About Emergency and Trauma Care at Smita Memorial Hospital
Smita Memorial Hospital & Research Centre has a dedicated Emergency and Trauma Centre that provides round-the-clock care for anyone who needs urgent medical attention — from minor injuries to major medical and accident cases, for every age group.
The centre is a tertiary trauma facility with a multidisciplinary trauma team drawn from neurosurgery, orthopaedics, general surgery and anaesthesiology. It has immediate access to an emergency operation theatre, a 24-hour pharmacy, CT and MRI imaging, and the hospital's intensive care units, including the PICU and NICU.

Yes. The Emergency and Trauma Centre is open 24 hours a day, every day. No appointment is needed — call 0486 235 0700 on the way if you can.
How do I call an ambulance?
Ambulance requests are made on a payment basis by calling 97786 57373. The hospital runs cardiac and trauma ambulances staffed by ALS/BLS-trained doctors, nurses and attendants, covering Idukki district.
Can you treat snake bites?
Yes. Snake bite is among the emergencies treated round the clock at the centre.
Is there a CT scan available at night for accident patients?
Yes. The emergency department has access to mobile X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI facilities, along with round-the-clock radiology.
Can I use my insurance in an emergency?
Yes. For an emergency ICU or accident admission the patient is admitted on showing the TPA ID card and paying a ₹10,000 deposit, and the cashless process is completed within 24 hours.
