Neurology Lab at Smita Memorial Hospital
The Neurology Lab at Smita Memorial Hospital is an integral part of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery. It conducts advanced tests to evaluate muscles, motor neurons, the spine and the brain's response to stimuli, for accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment.
Tests are non-invasive and help doctors diagnose, monitor and plan treatment for epilepsy, sleep disorders, neuropathy and other neurological and neuromuscular conditions.
What we offer
Electroencephalogram (EEG)
Records the brain's electrical activity to diagnose and monitor epilepsy, evaluate sleep disorders and detect encephalopathies and degenerative disease.
Nerve conduction velocity (NCV)
Measures the speed of signals in peripheral nerves for neuropathy (for example diabetic neuropathy), carpal tunnel syndrome and Guillain-Barré syndrome.
EMG & evoked potentials
Muscle studies and VEP, BAER and SSEP through the Neurology department.

Is an EEG painful?
No. EEG is non-invasive — small electrodes are placed on the scalp to record brain activity.
Why is an NCV test done?
To measure how quickly electrical signals travel through nerves, helping diagnose peripheral neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome and Guillain-Barré syndrome.
