The Department of Urology at Smita Memorial Hospital diagnoses and treats disorders of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system — the kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra and prostate. Highly qualified, experienced urologists combine medical expertise with advanced technology for comprehensive and minimally invasive care.
The department has a direct lithotripter for ESWL (extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy) of kidney and ureteric stones, supported by modern laboratories, CT and MRI prostate imaging, USG-guided prostate biopsy and histopathology. Individual treatment plans cover stones, infections, prostate problems and cancers.

Can kidney stones be treated without surgery?
Many kidney and ureteric stones can be treated with ESWL, which breaks stones using shock waves from outside the body. Smita Memorial Hospital has a direct lithotripter for ESWL. Larger stones may need URS or PCNL.
What is TURP?
TURP is an endoscopic operation that removes the part of the prostate blocking urine flow, performed through the urethra without an external cut.
Is MRI prostate available?
Yes. CT scan and MRI prostate are available, along with USG-guided prostate biopsy and histopathology.
Do you perform laparoscopic urology surgery?
Yes. The department performs advanced laparoscopic surgeries as well as open urological operations when needed.
